Inspector questions, answered.
The four we hear most often from independent home inspectors.
Can I deduct my premiums on Schedule C?
Self-employed health insurance is deducted on Schedule 1, line 17, not Schedule C — but it directly reduces your AGI, which is what matters for your subsidy and your bottom line. We walk you through it during enrollment.
Do I still need workers' comp if I have this?
Health insurance pays the hospital. Workers' comp pays for job-related injuries and replaces lost wages. Most states require workers' comp once you have employees. Solo 1099 inspectors usually pair this coverage with our accident supplement.
What if I inspect across multiple states?
We default multi-state inspectors to PPO networks that cover every metro you work in. Tell us your top three states during quoting and we'll filter for plans that travel with you.
Can I switch outside open enrollment?
Yes — leaving a W-2 job, starting your own inspection business, marriage, a new child, or moving all count as qualifying life events. You have 60 days to enroll without waiting for open enrollment.
